Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Kairos been providing consulting services to Christian churches and organizations?
Kairos was founded in 1989 and has provided services to over 1,700 Christian churches and organizations and assisted them in raising over $1.4 billion dollars for mission and ministry development and expansion.
How many consultants does Kairos have and where are they located?
Pastors Jeff Kjellberg and Keith Magnuson are the principal owners of Kairos, and together, bring over forty years of pastoral and organizational leadership to their roles. Beyond the executive and administrative staffs based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Kairos retains from 12 to 16 carefully selected people located throughout the nation to serve as consulting associates. This seems the perfect size to provide a wealth of experience and varied skills and yet bring personal customized service that not only increases results but also forms a strong, value-based partnership.
What types of services does Kairos provide?
Kairos provides expertise in the areas of Capital Resource Development, Stewardship Ministry Development and Ministry Planning. Additionally, our consultants provide expertise in Visioning, Leadership Development, and Strategic Planning.
How does Kairos decide which consultant is assigned to a project?
The match between the client and the consultant or team of consultants is of utmost importance. Kairos executive staff members take time to listen and learn about your vision, project, history, culture, doctrine, etc. They then discuss what person or team possesses the skills, personality and experience that will bring the greatest value while serving your needs. That is the person or team you will relate to from the beginning and who will serve you throughout your partnership with Kairos.
What is included in a Kairos capital program?
Our capital programs are uniquely customized to fit your congregation's culture and circumstance. A typical Kairos Capital Appeal includes four phases: Vision and Mission Discernment; Resource Assessment; Leadership Development; and the Capital Fund Appeal. Central to every Kairos program is the connection of generosity to discipleship. Assuring that your program helps people grow spiritually is essential.
What is the timeline for a capital program?
Kairos consultants work with congregations to arrive at a detailed calendar for every step of a Capital Appeal. In a typical program, the preparatory discernment and assessment activities take approximately 4 to 8 weeks, depending on size of the project you are undertaking. Telling your story, teaching scripture, motivating participants and contacting everyone for their response will take an additional 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the size of your constituency and the amount of money needed to be raised. The ongoing support activities continue for the duration of the giving period.
How does Kairos set its fee?
Kairos charges a flat fee for our services. This fee is established after conversation with your organization to understand your unique needs and circumstances.
Does Kairos provide any help with ongoing stewardship concerns or needs during the capital appeal?
Kairos consultants work closely with congregational leadership in the areas of finance and budgeting to maximize the impact the capital program can have in strengthening ongoing contributions. Teaching stewardship as a significant element of discipleship is one of the most significant components of a Kairos program.
What types of organizations does Kairos work with other than churches?
Kairos partners with Christian schools, social service organizations, and a variety of non-profit agencies and institutions. Consultants also teach seminars on all areas of our expertise for judicatories, seminaries, regional and national conferences, etc.
Why should we pay a professional to help us raise funds?
Raising money for any worthy cause takes specialized skill and training. Experiencing it as a faith-filled ministry takes dedicated focus on theological, ethical and spiritual issues. Accredited professional groups provide that expertise and leadership. Additionally, you will historically raise double or more financial support than you would have realized on your own. This alone is a huge return on your investment.
